Liviu Librescu: 75 or 76-year-old
Holocaust Survivor, Professor Killed Helping Students Escape
To a hero in Virginia:
The arc of Liviu Librescu's life and death is extraordinary: surviving a Nazi labour camp,
defying the communist Ceaucescu regime in his native Romania, escaping to Israel and then Virginia,
where he taught for 20 years and refused to consider retirement.
The 76-year-old professor who survived the Holocaust was shot to death while saving his students
from the Virginia Tech assailant, students said.
Liviu Librescu, an internationally respected aeronautics engineer who taught at Virginia Tech for 20
years, saved the lives of several students by barricading his classroom door before he was gunned
down in the massacre, according to e-mail accounts sent by students to his wife.

A Shinning Light in the darkest of times

Dear Family of Liviu Librescu,

I am sorry to hear and read of the death of your beloved husband and father. I was proud to read and hear that Professor Librescu's children feel that they can walk the streets with their helds high and be proud of their father's example.

I work with children who live in gang infested neighborhoods, who see drug deals and experience the violence of drive by shootings. The example set by your husband will help to give them the hope that they can change their lives and follow their dreams

I pray that God will bless you and your family in this time of sorrow

A hero

RIP Liviu.

I sat watching the news all Monday evening as the terrible events in Virginia unfolded before my eyes. More senseless loss of life that will take the community at Virginia Tech, the town and of course friends and family a long time to come to terms with. My heart goes out to you and my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

so sorry...

the news was dreadful, such a waste of those starting out in life and for Liviu Librescu who lived through bad times and survived, only to be massacred by a lunatic.
